Until AI advances to the point where it can actually think for itself, understand, and exhibit something that more closely resembles human-like intelligence and common sense, it will remain a tool that can be used for good or bad, depending on the intentions of its human users or the unintended consequences of its design.

The emergence of AGI is likely to be gradual rather than all at once as its development is a very complex and difficult task that will require significant advances in several different fields.

To attain true AI understanding, researchers should shift their attention to developing a basic, underlying AGI technology that replicates the contextual understanding of humans.
