DataOps Trends To Watch in 2023

DataOps is becoming critical for organizations to ensure that data is being used in an efficient and compliant way.

Organizations are ingesting more data than ever before into their operations, but there are still many data inefficiencies which are common practices across many industries. Without proper DataOps practices, these businesses will continue to see roadblocks in their data journey.

At the same time, newer data and analytics services are coming online, making the need for proper data literacy more critical to achieve accurate and agile analytics.

For that reason, it is important that organizations are on the front foot when it comes to data trends, to ensure the business is proactive instead of reactive. Here are some key trends for 2023:

Real-time data

Organizations are transitioning from batch-based pipelines, which have been in the norm for over a decade, to real-time data that can be collected and displayed immediately. Utilizing real-time analytics can provide businesses with a competitive edge.

Real-time data pipelines come with some advantages for DataOps teams, as they do not need to be stored and repeatedly queried as batch pipelines do, however, organizations need to have good quality control and governance systems in place to ensure that bad data is not going through the pipeline, as it will be harder to rectify this in a real-time setup.

Data Access Governance

Leading on from the last point, organizations need to get a better hold on data access, especially with all of the different data regulations in place such as the EU’s GDPR, Canada’s PIPEDA, and China’s PIPL. Several US states have also introduced similar regulations to protect consumers.

Demonstrating compliance can act as a trustworthy boost for organizations, while also making sure they avoid the hefty fines that are being imposed for websites and applications which fail to meet these regulations. Setting proper data governance frameworks and ensuring that only the people that need access have it is critical for businesses in 2023.

Data Democratization

The next point may sound contradictory to the previous one, but as long as an organization has good data access governance there’s no reason it should be. Making data more available to less technically proficient members of an organization, and giving them the tools to find it themselves, can make a business run efficiently.

A lot of data is still locked away behind manual and lengthy processes, but low-code services are showing the way for businesses to give all employees access to the decision making process.
