Self-service data preparation provider Paxata announced this week the general availability of the Spring 2019 release, a major update to the company’s Adaptive Information Platform.

The update includes an Intelligent Automation program, a smart algorithmic capability that discovers and curates data assets and data preparation projects, triggers automated flows based on parameters or events, monitors data preparation, and integrates orchestration engines through REST APIs.

“Paxata’s new Intelligent Automation capability allows our business and data analysts to collaborate across multiple data prep projects and then automate them into a single flow with a simple click of a button,” said Jim Tyo, Chief Data Officer, Nationwide Insurance.

“This is a critical capability, as it helps us encourage self-service and a collaborative development of complex data preparation projects, while making it easy to combine, run, maintain, and govern these workflows over time.”

Paxata has also introduced Excel-like self-service transformations, which can perform string operations for trimming, padding, repeating or reversing field values; search and replace, substitution, and regex functions; offer data functions for end of month, week of year, and working days; and numeric functions for rounding up/down, square root, and logarithm.

“Traditionally, the legacy approach to automation of complex data preparation jobs was based on pre-defining a workflow that required drawing boxes and arrows that point from one data source to a transformation step to another,” said Jean-Luc Chatelain, a managing director and CTO of Accenture Applied Intelligence.

“This has been a rigid process with very slow delivery and change management, which is compounded by its reliance on developers and technical staff. Paxata’s technology enables self-service data prep and eases the operationalization of data projects.”

Paxata is building a reputation for excellent self-service data preparation tools, as can be seen on the Gartner peer insights website where it holds a 4.4 / 5 star score – higher than a lot of the major data preparation providers.
